i secretly love that i decided to title this blog "thoughts." then .... when i really just have some random ramblings - you can't really get mad at me (whoever "you" are). i told you upfront what to expect.

so ... with that. i have a recent discovery that i found here in DC that has changed my world.

MAKING U-TURNS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET.

ANYTIME.

ANYWHERE.

a bit dramatic? no, i think not. it really is the best thing ever. drivers in this city decide to make U-turns just about anytime they want. and i'm not just talking around the median in the middle of the road ... i'm talking the complete "i'm-deciding-to-go-in-the-opposite-direction-right-now-i-don't-care-if-it's-illegal" U-turn. just awesome.

i'm not sure how this became ok or when ... but i've recently become the newest participant in this most wonderful pastime. after all - why go around the block? or turn around in a driveway? who cares if it's in Chinatown @ 5:30pm or there are pedestrians? ok - so who cares if it has to be a 3 point turn - traffic (both ways) can wait a bit, right?

and those my friends .... are the thoughts in my head.

An old couple here in Savannah thought that was cool too and decided to take a u-turn while they were in the far right lane of a four lane. My brother who was in the left lane going the same direction (does that make sense?) had to pull a major swerve as the old folks u-ied in front of him. He VERY narrowly avoided a huge crash and scraped up the side of his jeep because of a u-turn happy grandpa. All that to say, be careful. And make sure you're in the lane closest to the yellow line.

that's amazing.

i will remember that next time. but don't worry too much ... DCists are pros at everything they do -- think: avoiding eye contact on the Metro, pretending to be very important, paying way too much for rent, etc. just add this one to the list.

I haven't been to DC since I was like 10 so I don't remember the metro part. I should come visit.
